Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Yohling website, dashboard, and Chrome extension (together, the "Service"). Yohling is currently operated by Geo Mathew, an individual based in India, trading as "Yohling" — not (yet) a separately registered company ("we", "us"). By creating an account, subscribing, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.

1. Who can use Yohling

You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of legal majority in your jurisdiction, to create an account or subscribe. By using the Service, you represent that you meet this requirement and that any information you give us during signup is accurate.

2. What the Service is

Yohling is a Mandarin-vocabulary learning tool. The dashboard lets you review saved words, sentences, and flashcards, and take practice tests. The Chrome extension adds a hover-to-scan overlay to pages you visit — it reads Chinese text already visible on that page (for example, dialogue in a manhua or webtoon you're reading) and shows you a translation, pinyin, and pronunciation.

The extension does not host, store, or provide access to any manhua, webtoon, or other comic content. It only reads content already rendered in your own browser on sites you independently choose to visit. The extension reads third-party content as-is — we have no control over the accuracy, completeness, or legality of content on sites you choose to visit, and we accept no responsibility for it. You're responsible for making sure your use of any third-party site complies with that site's own terms.

3. Accounts

You're responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity under your account. Tell us right away if you think your account has been compromised.

4. Subscriptions and billing

  • Yohling is offered as a paid monthly subscription. Current prices are shown on our Pricing page.
  • Users who complete the Sect trials pay $20/month from the first billing cycle. Users who choose to skip the trials pay $21 for the first month, then $20/month for all subsequent renewals. Both paths include identical access to all features.
  • Payments are processed by our payment processor (currently Dodo Payments, or another processor we may use from time to time), acting as our Merchant of Record — they handle billing, tax, and card processing on our behalf.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically each month until you cancel.
  • You can cancel anytime from your Account page. Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep access until the end of the billing period you already paid for.
  • Deleting your account (as opposed to cancelling) immediately cancels any active subscription and ends your access, including any remaining time already paid for — see our Refund & Cancellation Policy for detail.
  • Subscription payments are non-refundable, other than for genuine billing errors on our part — see our Refund & Cancellation Policy.
  • We may change subscription pricing going forward; if we do, we'll give you notice before it applies to your next renewal.

5. Preview / trial content

Parts of our marketing site (such as the interactive "Sect trial") let you try a demo without an account. This demo is illustrative only — it uses original artwork created in-house and owned by us, not real manhua or webtoon content, and isn't itself a time-limited free trial of the paid product.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the Service, except to the extent permitted by mandatory law in your jurisdiction;
  • Share your account with others or resell access to the Service;
  • Use automated tools to send an abnormal volume of requests to our scanning, translation, or text-to-speech features;
  • Use the Service to violate the law, or the terms of any third-party site you access it on;
  • Attempt to bypass usage limits, subscription checks, or security measures.

7. Intellectual property

The Yohling name, software, and original content (including demo artwork created for this Service) are owned by us. Copyright in original works vests automatically upon creation under applicable law; while the name and logo are not currently registered as trademarks, we reserve all rights in them. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the Service for your own personal, non-commercial language learning. We claim no ownership over third-party manhua, webtoon, or other content you view through your own browser — that content belongs to its respective creators and publishers.

8. Third-party services

The Service relies on infrastructure and APIs from other providers — including Supabase (accounts and data storage), our payment processor (billing), Google Cloud (on-demand text recognition and speech synthesis), and Cloudflare (hosting for the extension's backend). Our Privacy Policy explains what's shared with each.

9. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind. We don't guarantee that translations, OCR readings, or pronunciations are always perfectly accurate, or that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free.

Yohling is a language-learning aid, not a certified or professional translation service. Don't rely on it for medical, legal, financial, or other decisions where translation accuracy matters materially — use a qualified human translator for those.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Yohling won't be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose.

11. Disputes — please contact us first

If you have a dispute or complaint about the Service, please contact us at real.yohling@gmail.com before pursuing any formal legal action. Most issues can be resolved quickly and directly, and we're committed to responding promptly. This isn't a waiver of any legal rights — it's simply an invitation to let us try to make things right first.

12. Termination

You may stop using the Service and cancel your subscription at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, including the acceptable-use rules above.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll post the update here with a new "Last updated" date. Continuing to use the Service after a change means you accept the updated Terms.

14. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of India, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. If you're a consumer located elsewhere, mandatory consumer-protection laws of your own country may still apply to you regardless of this clause.
